Woodbridge Area Pet Owners

For the convenience of our clients in the Woodbridge, Lake Ridge, Dale City, Manassas, and greater Prince William County Area, we offer convenient wellness appointments. At no additional charge for daycare, clients can drop pets off any time after 7 a.m. on weekdays and can pick pets up at any time later that day, until 7 p.m.

Annual Wellness Examinations

We recommend bringing your pet in at least once a year for a wellness examination at our veterinary hospital in Woodbridge. This appointment is similar to the routine physical you schedule annually with your primary physician. It is a chance for us to look your pet over from snout to tail, run any needed tests, and gather information from you on how your pet has been behaving, eating, feeling, etc. It’s also an opportunity for us to address any questions or concerns you may have about your pet’s overall health.

During your visit, we will examine your pet’s teeth and mouth, eyes, ears, breathing, heart, reflexes, skin, lymph nodes and abdomen, and joints and muscles for any signs of arthritis or other orthopedic conditions. To create the most effective lifetime preventative pet healthcare plan, complete bloodwork allows us to create a baseline.

Woodbridge Pet Vaccination Programs

Pets living in the Woodbridge, VA area face unique dangers – as to pets living anywhere in the U.S. Because each pet’s lifestyle and environment are different, we tailor vaccination programs to the individual needs of your pet. By considering your pet’s age, lifestyle, and travel habits, as well as diseases prevalent in our area, and the most current recommendations from the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Animal Hospital Association, we can design the best vaccination protocol to protect your Woodbridge pet against serious diseases and bacteria. Our goal is to never over-vaccinate, while maintaining your pet’s optimal health and protection.

Preventative Veterinary Screenings

Fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites can be real pests. Beyond causing discomfort, they can lead to serious illness or carry diseases dangerous to both you and your pet. Fortunately, all of these things can be prevented by taking proactive measures to protect your pet. The staff at Staples Mill Animal Hospital can recommend the best preventatives for your pet and screen for any preexisting parasites, Lyme disease, and heartworm.

Dr. Shane also recommends routine glaucoma screenings as part of your pet’s regular wellness care at Staples Mill Animal Hospital. There are two types of glaucoma, primary/chronic glaucoma (hereditary) and secondary/acute glaucoma (caused by injury/illness). Secondary glaucoma is considered an emergency situation because it can progress rapidly, but both types can lead to damage to the optic nerve, vision loss, and blindness. We screen for glaucoma with a painless, handheld tonometer. The procedure helps us develop a baseline of your pet’s intraocular pressure.
