Veterinary Assistant Heather Pemberton has worked in the veterinary field for 17 years since leaving the human medical field to pursue her passion of working with animals. It was at this time that she first met Dr. Shane and has been working with/for her ever since. Her interests are dental health and animal behavior. She is certified in dental radiology as well as companion animal laser therapy. She is currently pursuing her Veterinary Technician License at Penn and Foster College. In her spare time, she enjoys working in her gardens, and relaxing by her koi pond with her pug, Tootsie, Labrador, Sookie, and cat Willow.

Veterinary Assistant Violet Leavitt has been in the field since 2007, and joined the team at Staples Mill Animal Hospital in November 2014. She is currently pursuing a Veterinary Technician License at the Distance Education Veterinary Technology Program (DEVTP). Violet knew at a very young age she wanted to work with animals. She has a passion for helping and caring for the four legged kids. She met Dr. Shane in 2012, and knew from the beginning she would be following her to her new hospital. She is always enthused in expanding her knowledge in the field. Violet is certify in companion animals laser therapy.

"I love working for a doctor who is very compassionate about her patients, and very understanding with her staff." Violet says. "I'm so proud to be a part of a new hospital that is setting the bar so high for the care our patients should get and deserve."

Violet has one dog: Shadow, Boxer mix. In her free time, she enjoys working on her arts and craft, and projects around the house. She also loves playing sports as much as she loves watching them. Her favorite thing to do is spending time with her toddler and husband.

Veterinary Assistant Jessica Cooper joined the Staples Mill Team in November 2014, after previously working with/for Dr. Shane and Practice Manager Mike Shane for almost 10 years. She is certified in Companion Animal Laser Therapy and is currently pursuing her Veterinary Technician License at a local college. She has owned a variety of animals, but currently enjoys spending her free time with her herd of 4 dogs, Zoe (Dalmatian), Daisy (Lab), Noah(Maltese), and Mika (Cockapoo) and 3 cats Cali, Precious, and Tatum. When she is not working or taking care of her herd she enjoys spending time outdoors, hanging out with family, friends, learning new crafts from YouTube and Pinterest and is an active movie enthusiast!

Animals have always been a passion for Jamie. She has loved animals since she was a child, always rescuing them and bringing them home. Working in a veterinary hospital provides Jamie the opportunity to do what she loves. She has been working in the veterinary field since 2007 and has done a little bit of everything. At Staples Mill Animal Hospital, which opened in November 2014, she works as a receptionist. Although Staples Mill Animal Hospital just recently opened, Jamie has been working with Dr. Shane, Michael Shane, the office manager, and the rest of the Staples Mill Animal Hospital staff since 2009. Jamie is currently enrolled in college working on her bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management.

"Who wouldn't love what they do? I get to be with my work family, get to know clients on a personal level, love on fur babies and best of all smell puppy breath! It's such a wonderful job and Staples Mill is a great place to work."

Jamie has two dogs and one cat, Sugar, Lil'Man and Purple Popsicle, respectively. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her daughter, Addison, reading, watching sports and finding new home improvement projects to work on at her home.

Susie has worked as a receptionist for animal hospitals since 2002; nice of those years spent with Dr. Shane. She is a certified fitness instructor and working on her yoga instructor certification. When not at the hospital she spends her time providing classes to local residents of Prince William County. In her spare time, Susie enjoys running and participating in triathlons with her friend's as well as watching her two daughters compete in swim meets and lacrosse tournaments.

Veterinary assistant, Anna Flis, joined the Staples Mill team in December 2015. After going to cosmetology school and working in the industry for over 5 years, Anna decided to make a career change. She worked at her first animal hospital a year ago and discovered that she had found her calling. From a young age, she has always had a love for animals.

In her free time, you will find her baking, sewing pet accessories, watching football (Go Panthers!), doing hair, or hiking with her husband and pit bull, Diesel.

"I'm so excited to have found a place that has a great staff and amazing doctors! Everyone genuinely loves their job and always make sure the pets are loved and cared for every step of the way. I'm so grateful that I have the opportunity to grow with this wonderful staff and our amazing clients for many years to come!"

Stephanie first began working in the veterinary field in 2010 and has experience both as a receptionist and a veterinary assistant. She has possessed a love for animals her entire life. Stephanie met Dr. Shane in 2012 and was thrilled to join her and the Staples Mill family in 2015.

Outside of work, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her family, pets and friends, watching Redskins football, browsing Pinterest and working on projects around her home. She has 4 pets: a Shetland Sheepdog (Rocky), a cat (Twiggy) and two Saint Bernards (Dakota and Dahlia).
