You can have confidence we will work hard to ensure each procedure is performed according to the highest veterinary surgical standards and is as stress-free as possible for both you and your pet.

Dr. Shane has experience performing a wide range of surgical procedures, including:

  • Spays and neuters
  • Feline declaws
  • Eye surgery
  • Bladder surgery
  • Tumor removal
  • Gastrointestinal surgery
  • Orthopedic surgery
  • Cancer surgery
  • Skin surgery
  • Cesarean sections

Perhaps the most important pre-surgical step is to discuss why we believe a particular procedure is necessary and what it entails. For your peace of mind, Dr. Shane will answer any questions you may have so you feel comfortable knowing you're making the right choice for your pet.

Your Pet's Health and Safety is Our Priority

As a part of our commitment to you and your pet, Dr. Shane requires continuous education of all staff members on the latest techniques and best practices in veterinary surgical care. Dr. Shane and her skilled team promise to take the following steps to ensure your pet's complete well-being and comfort:

  • Prior to undergoing surgery, your pet will receive pre-operative bloodwork to help ensure the safest possible anesthetic experience.
  • Pre-anesthetic medication will be administered to your pet to control and ease anxiety.
  • While under anesthesia, your pet is continuously monitored and supervised by a trained surgical nurse.
  • As recommended by the American Animal Hospital Association, your pet will have an IV catheter placed for all anesthetic procedures. This allows an access point should the need for emergency drugs arise. It also allows us to administer IV fluids, which help maintain normal blood pressure during the procedure.
  • During and after surgery your pet's normal body temperature will be maintained with external warming blankets.
  • Your pet will receive post-operative pain medications needed to aid the healing process and keep him or her comfortable.
  • Post-operative pain medication is administered in the hospital, and is in included in the cost of all surgeries.
  • Whenever possible, your pet's surgery will be performed via laser to minimize post-operative pain and to speed recovery. All surgical patients receive one post-operative therapeutic laser treatment to help speed recovery of the surgical site. Laser surgery is considered a standard of care; we do not charge a premium for this service.
  • You will be kept updated on your pet's status throughout their stay by a knowledgeable member of our staff to make the day of the procedure as stress-free as possible for you, the pet owner and our client.

woodbridge pet surgical servicesComprehensive Pain Management

We all know pain hurts, but pain also has many other detrimental effects on your pet's body. Pain slows healing, compromises immune function, decreases activity and causes behavioral changes such as aggression, anxiety and depression. Pain worsens diseases like arthritis and potentially some cancers. It also interferes with the bond between you and your pet.

We believe very strongly in the use of strong pain relievers for the comfort of our patients. Our staff is trained to recognize signs of pain and develop individual pain management protocols for your pet.

Postoperative Pet Surgery Care

When your pet is discharged from our animal hospital, you will be provided with detailed information on how to administer any medication and properly care for your pet at home after surgery. We are also happy to answer any questions or concerns that may arise once you get your pet home.
